Bazaruto Archipelago National Park

Bazaruto Archipelago National Park is a protected marine national park located off the coast of southern Mozambique in the Indian Ocean. Established in 1971, it covers the islands of Bazaruto, Benguerra, Magaruque, Santa Carolina (Paradise Island), and Bangué, along with the surrounding marine waters.



Location

Approximately 30 km east of the mainland town of Vilanculos.

Situated in Inhambane Province.

Accessible by boat or helicopter from Vilanculos.

Highlights

Extensive coral reefs and seagrass beds.

One of Africa's most important habitats for the endangered Dugong.

Rich marine life including dolphins, turtles, manta rays, whale sharks, and seasonal humpback whales.

May to October: Dry season, cooler temperatures, calmer seas, and excellent diving conditions.
